Raoul's tuesday post

Today we discussed two new ideas from Notes From the Underground about the human condition. The first idea that we talked about was man's instinctive desire to destroy that which is beautiful and sublime. I personally find this instinct to be consciously stupid; however, I to tend to desire to destroy beauty. I agree with the point that Juan brought up today. I believe that we desire to destroy that which is beautiful and sublime because it shows not only our dominance but also it gives us confirmation. The second idea that we talked about was "the fundamental laws of over-acute consciousness, and with the inertia that was the direct result of those laws". Basically we tend to disbelieve valid information because it goes against our beliefs. The example we used today with the jews having a higher IQ's vs blacks being better at sports, I believe was perfect. People (like Alexa cough cough*) ignore statistical facts and say that no jews do not have higher IQ's simply because they do not agree do not agree. However on the other hand, people are ready to agree with the statement that blacks are better at sports because it goes with their beliefs and does not affect them.
