I think it is easiest to admit the value of suffering once the
suffering is over. It’s so complicated because we always want what we can’t
have and can never appreciate what we do have. Even with all this knowledge and
even after having a valuable discussion about how the journey is the most
important part, it won’t change the way we act. It won’t change the fact that
all I will do during suffering is bitch and complain and that once I get what I
want ill finally appreciate the difficulty it took to achieve it and even miss
the feeling of despair. That’s the whole point I think. Nothing makes sense,
but it’s comforting to know that we’re not alone and Dostoyevsky gets it. That’s
why he’s “brilliant” because he gets us.
