Based on the discussion today, I don’t necessarily believe that mankind has become more bloodthirsty (although you could agree based on suppression from society). Instead, I think today we justify our violence through religion, patriotism and psychological issues. Instead of just stating it is our nature to do so, we cover up the urges we have and simply say it because of a lack of chemical in our brain or that we must defend the systems we created.  But the real question is, is this a good thing? Should we be able to channel our inner animal openly or is it better to swipe these feelings under the rug? Too bad we will never know because as we discussed in class there is no ultimate system. As we continue to discuss, I find it fascinating how human behavior varies with each individual. Another point Dostoyevsky brought up was if humans knew that there was no such thing as free will and everything is predetermined by science and the laws of nature, there would be no more incidents or adventures in the world. Some would say I guess it’s a good thing that it’s not like that and we have the choice, but in reality it is just that. We are fully influenced by the laws of nature. We live by the unpredictable laws of nature and there still are constantly incidents and adventures because that is how life works and that is how things are drawn out, nothing is perfectly planned out nor will it ever be. However we like to picture it as a predetermined system, but its not. And so the contradictions continue.
