Tuesday Post
The discussion today definitely shed a lot of light on Dostoevsky's view of humans in general. The unpredictable nature of human behavior excludes us from any generalizations made by scientists about our species. I like that Dostoevsky brings out flaws in both science and religion as some of the claims have to be addressed concerning our nature. Religion does not make our actions noble and science absolutely does not make our actions predictable. The only thing that can be said is that humans seek some form of advantage for themselves ; However, no one agrees on what this advantage is because considering the choices some humans make that are clearly against their best interest (ie: smoking) we cannot categorize advantages as they are different for everyone.
