Wednesday's Post

Today’s topic of discussion had to do with a few concepts that Dostoyevski brings up. For starters, Dostoyevski continues to speak of his intelligence as a disease. At first glance this seems incredibly irrational as many consider intelligence a blessing, but when looked upon as Dostoyevski does one can see the negative aspects of intelligence. This is essentially a more complicated form of “Ignorance is Bliss”, but rather than focusing on the bliss brought upon by ignorance, it focuses on the hardships or suffering that intelligence brings. Furthermore, I find it fascinating how Dostoyevski is able to understand every point of view and how it leads to nothing in the end because he can never make up his mind. Again, one would think that this ability to see two sides to everything would be an advantage, but to Dostoyevski it simply creates internal conflict.
