Ryan Cordero Wednesday Post

After yesterday’s discussion, I think that humans have become more violent as a race. I think humans have become more violent because we have enlarged the range of justifications for committing violent, bloodthirsty acts. There lies a great irony in the fact that the belief systems we use to justify killing are the same ones that advocate peace and harmony, religion says thou shall not kill and the laws in place make killing illegal. However, we go to war in order to protect our religion or our state; Spain killed and tortured a large portion of its population in the name of its religion that says killing is bad. I think the social institutions in place allow humans to be more violent, because it offers them almost infinite justifications for killing. Furthermore, people kill each other for the stupidest reasons; for example, one man pulled out a gun and killed another man because he was texting during a movie. Before the modern man, something so miniscule does not result in a person’s death.
