Today's discussion of "Notes from the Underground" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky was another insightful one. The idea that people do not enjoy their own journeys is rather depressing when thought about. There's a quote "Life's a journey, not a destination." I find it sad that people do not take this to heart. We are always concerned with what comes next and how to expedite this process. We spend too much time worrying about how to do something in the most efficient way instead of enjoying the process of doing it. We spend too much time thinking of how to climb the mountain fastest instead of enjoying the climb, so to speak.
I think that most of the happiness in life is derived from simply taking a moment to look around and smell the flowers. I know that I have regretted letting special moments in my life pass me by without appreciating them. In general, I wish that people could stop in their tracks and not worry about their destination. I also know that this is a nearly impossible feat.
