I particularly enjoyed today’s discussion of NFTU. It is interesting how we, as a society, create these political/ religious systems for the purpose of satisfying everyone, however, no one system is correct; there will be opposition to any system no matter what. Society tries to create the perfect system, one that will satisfy all, but this is believed to be impossible. Theories are currently being tested in order to produce a perfect system, but I believe it is our natural drive to want to answer the unknown.
As a result of the creation of systems, man’s evolutionary natural instincts are suppressed. These instincts of competition and aggression are expressed vicariously through sports, where man’s only real threat is another man.
An important point made as we concluded the discussion was that we create ideologies for the purpose of establishing peace, however, we kill in the name of them; this completely defeats the purpose. I had never realized just how self contradictory society is. It is interesting how the pillars of society appear again in a different, more eye-opening light.
