I think that people like to believe that humans are intrinsically good. I feel that this belief is made with the hopes to reassure humans of their power and stautes. Humans see themselves at the top of the food chain, and therefore I think that sometimes people believe that because of this "status" humans need to be perfect. Therefore they go on to say that humans are inherently good, and will always do was is beneficial to them but in reality this is not true. Humans act very strangely at times and do things which may harm them for no apparent reason. I think these actions frustrate some people and therefore it is easier to say that if humans really knew themselves, if they were truly conscious, then they would be good and true. Overall I think the issue lies in the fact that people are always trying to classify everything. It is easier to categorize and compartmentalize everything, then to have chaos. This is where the concept of "advantage" comes into play. What I think some people who believe that are missing is that they do not realize that human nature and actions are completely random and therefore it is impossible to "categorize" humans or human traits.
