Maya's 2/4/2014 Discussion Post

I particularly liked today’s discussion on “the wall”. We all know that we cannot know or do everything so we just kind of accept that there is only a finite amount of possibilities. It helps us keep in check with the reality around us because, like the class discussed, once the wall is torn down, everything that one understands and knows gets taken down. Once that happens, your world gets “flipped upside down”. After discussing this, I understand more why people were so upset by the introduction of Darwinian theory in the 19th century. Initially, I thought, “Why wouldn’t the people of this century want to know how life around them works?”. The introduction of Darwin’s theories essentially pulled a rug out from under the 19th century. Everyone was told, “Hey, there is no such thing as someone watching over you. When you die, no one will be there to greet you ‘on the other side’. By the way, he also didn’t create the universe; that was a lie”.
