The
discussion today touched upon how we have the tendency and urge to destroy
things when they are “sublime and beautiful”. Although I can’t think of time
when I have felt like this on the spot, this idea makes sense to me. It’s the
moment right before the peace is broken when man can find the most pleasure. It
is the moment he disrupts the beauty and ranks dominant. People naturally find
enjoyment in the failure of others. It gives us power and something to compare
our situation to. As we said before we are the most important things to
ourselves, therefore we are always trying to make ourselves happy, even at the
cost of others.
Another
topic that we discussed in class today referred to the wall that is built
around us. This wall is safety and reassurance as it provides the guidelines to
the way we live our lives. I didn’t realize it what an impact it was on the
life we live – family, school, our future plans & even living day to
day. Without it we would find
ourselves with an unimaginable freedom, one that even if we had to opportunity
to seize, we wouldn’t know how.
