Discussing the idea of infinity in
class today was extremely thought-provoking, especially after trying to
explicitly picture it mentally. I kept seeing the idea in a way similar to the
video Natalie posted; it’s as if you’re zooming out to no end of a picture, the
universe, or absolutely anything. I felt that, in a way, this image accurately depicted
the idea of setting down walls and limitations; you have a basic idea in front
of you and once you start to get used to it, the image zooms out to encompass a
larger range, potentially changing what you thought of the now-miniscule field
of vision you had just seconds prior. And once you start formulating an idea of
the new picture in front of you, metaphorically establishing a wall in accordance
with your new thoughts, your vision zooms out once again. This process repeats itself
infinitely; you set down walls and beliefs until something else comes along to
knock it down and create an entirely new one, effectively creating a paradigm
shift just as Darwin’s theory of evolution did. The idea that even the norm of
science and logic may be knocked down is something I can’t even begin to
comprehend –perhaps because the wall of reason has already formed in my head.
