Friday’s discussion was quite
intense and interesting. I haven’t
thought too much of religion before, and I kind of accepted its place in
society as something that is important to many, and not that important to a
few. The idea presented that religion
was necessary in order for humans to progress in the world and become smarter
makes sense. It brought people together
from being individual clans that feared and hated each other to large
civilizations of thousands of people. I
think religion helped bring people together, and gave them a common goal to
work toward. The idea that religion is
useless today is not correct in my opinion.
Although some find it stupid and worthless, I think the moral values presented
in religions are still pertinent to today.
Whether or not the end is amazing or nothing isn’t really the
point. It is about being the best person
you can be with the time you have. I
feel that the narrator from the book feels both sides of religion as he sees
the greatness that comes about it, but also the ridiculousness of it all.
