I thought today's discussion in class was particularly interesting in regards to destroying something beautiful and the idea of a "wall". At first I thought I the idea of wanting to ruin something “sublime and beautiful” was rather bizarre and unusual, but my view quickly changed. Raoul made a good point regarding the topic, he said that the act of destroying something beautiful puts the person and the object on the same level, either by bringing the person up or dragging the object down or both. For example, Mr. Shapiro mentioned wanting to be on the golf course on his bike during the day, but he couldn’t, and by going on at night, he put himself on the golf course on the same level. Moreover, I think the idea of a “wall” is extremely relevant, as it gives society comfort and protection. More importantly, the wall prevents people’s minds from going crazy with all of the possibilities that can happen. However, when society’s “wall” is torn down, it creates a sort of vacuum in that humanity needs to build another wall to restore order and comfort.
