Keri's Wednesday Reaction

Today's discussion of "Notes from the Underground" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky was very insightful yet again. Putting my head down on my desk and imagining that I was in a rocket soaring up to an infinite universe made me feel tranquil in the midst of a stressful day. This imagination and the discussion after it made me realize that as a human race, we fear the unknown. We prefer what is certain and defined. This makes sense because not knowing what comes next is scary. However, knowledge gives people security and self esteem which is reassuring.
In the midst of my imagination, I found it impossible to imagine what nothing would look like. I found it difficult to picture something without a limit or end. I am guessing this is because I am accustomed to everything coming to an end somehow. I have not been exposed to a never ending, limitless space area. I find it fascinating that there are so many things I do in my life that I am not even conscious of. I never fully realized how much I fear the unknown until today.
