Today’s
discussion was a nice and refreshing change of pace from normal. I think that
closing our eyes and attempting to picture the infinite reaches of space really
helped to understand the idea of the wall. As I continued speeding through the
universe, I felt myself repeatedly putting up a black “screen” as to symbolize
an end or wall and make infinity finite. Each time I would reach it, I would
“drop” the screen as if it were a curtain, only to replace it with a further
one. I found it nearly unfathomable to imagine an endless universe; when I
tried to, I would get anxious. I now have a better understanding of the anxiety
some people feel when they consider the possibility of having no god exist. Dostoevsky
is a much deeper writer and philosopher than I had previously imagined.
