Notes from the Underground first post
So far I've found Notes from the Underground very fascinating. The narrator is quite possibly the strangest and most intriguing narrator of a story I have ever come across. I really like the way he addresses the reader directly as it works really well. As he rambles on to make a point my thoughts are often later addressed by the Narrator directly , assuring the reader but also claiming that he does not really care much what the reader thinks. The narrator does not seem like a pretensions person but the way he views himself may lead people to think he is. He claims to be an intelligent man (or at least finds everyone else stupid) but also cannot accomplish anything in his miserable, sordid life.I feel like I can relate to the narrator , especially when he starts talking about consciousness. He thinks of himself as a lowly mouse in the face of direct men, in other words , men of action. The narrator's expanded consciousness seems to be his curse as he struggles to make any change in his life that he has already described as miserable. Indeed, he claims that even if he could make a change he would rather not , perhaps out of spite.
