Maya's Second NFTU Post
In class, a few of my classmates mentioned how Dostoyevsky was constantly contradicting himself. It was something I had not picked up on while reading the first fifteen pages, I just thought it was how he wrote. Now that I have become aware of it, it is making the book that much more difficult to read. However, this does not mean it's less enjoyable. At first, it just came across as your typical existentialist rambling on about whatever it may be. Now, when I try to annotate, I have trouble deciding what to actually write down because when I think I have grasped the concept Dostoyevsky is trying to convey, something entirely different and self-contradicting is brought up. I underestimated the book. I knew it was going to be difficult, but not confusing. But, when read properly, it really does open up the reader's mind. Just one of Dostoyevsky's many ideas can act as catalysts for my own ramblings in the margins.
