I feel
that most people most likely found the narrator to be rather rude during this
section. He was rather questioning, but
at the end of the day, I felt that he was trying to get a response out of her. When he tries to engage the woman, she always
gives him one word answers which don’t amount to an actual conversation. He likes her, and wants to have somewhat of
an intelligent conversation, but his insecurities and worries about his self-image
cause him to across like a gruff old dude.
When she finally seems interested in one of his topics he brings up, he
dives deep into to the topic and brings up a bunch of interesting ideas about
marriage and family. This works, and she
begins to like him after this conversation.
His way of getting towards a conversation is definitely different, but
in the end it worked.
