Maya's NFTU Post Day 1

I am literally only fifteen pages into the book and it seems as though each paragraph introduces a new topic that could serve as the inspiration for a page of psychoanalysis that concerns the main character. I was skeptical about just how dense the book could be... I guess I jumped to conclusions. I don't really mind it, though. I enjoy the method that Dostoyevsky has chosen to convey his ideas, it's almost conversation-like. The book does start off rather strangely; Dostoyevsky's main character explains to the reader that he is experiencing problems with his liver. However, he does not know exactly what the problem is nor does he express any sort of desire to consult a doctor and find out. I think that this mindset Dostoyevsky has in the first paragraph sheds a light on a certain issue; people acknowledge that something is wrong, but they never get around to finding out exactly what it is. Usually, nothing gets done about it until things go from bad to worse and people find themselves in a corner. I'm looking forward to reading more about Dostoyevsky's thoughts and perceptions.
