Alex Rojo Day 5

Throughout chapters 6 and 7 of Notes From The Underground, the narrator’s insecurities about death and his own consciousness are projected onto an innocent woman, Liza. The narrator chose this character specifically because she is someone who is very young and vulnerable. He freely judges and expresses his views on her lifestyle as a prostitute and eventually goes on in explaining her worthlessness. He makes note of her animalistic qualities- he does not even regard her as a human being. It is as though he feeds off of her reactions, her submissiveness, and continues to point out what I believe he sees in himself. He claims that she is a slave to her mistress when he explains that he too feels like a slave. It is as though he is able to relate to Liza’s character on a different level.
